“Personal Branding” is necessary to stand out in this virtual world. A personal brand is a combination of skills, expertise, and personality and how you present them on different platforms is important. And when it comes to personal branding headshots, RELATABILITY wins. So you can take the pressure OFF yourself with regard to how you LOOK.
Here are a few ways you can come across as RELATABLE in your Personal Branding Headshots
Look away, yep, DON’T look at the camera
Most of the clients we photograph feel nervous about looking right into the lens anyway, so we say ‘LOOK AWAY’! Be free!! And often the results are captivating, natural and super relatable.
Be consistent in how you show yourself
There are a million ways you can share your headshots online. Social media is only ONE of those ways. Think about using the headshots for BLOG posts, email signatures, and on your website. If you are present on several different online platforms, it’s important to make sure that you show up consistently (after all branding is about CONSISTENCY). ALL our packages include a VARIETY of images that you can swap out and share across different platforms. We encourage you to swap these images FREQUENTLY. Think about Google for example. Google ranks websites HIGHER if the website it dynamic, not static. Meaning, swap your images out a LOT to show various (yet consistent) sides of you. If you blog, do it regularly on a schedule and create images that go with the THEME of your blog.

Keep retouch to a minimum
Believe it or not, your audience will relate to you more if you DON’T look perfect. So, we never over retouch our images. You certainly don’t want your audience thinking you look WORSE in-person. So our goal is to retouch naturally (blemishes, dark spots, under-eye circles will be retouched, but we keep the rest alone).

Relate to and SPEAK TO your audience
Your audience wants to not only SEE you, they want to HEAR you speaking to them directly. We use an app called “Bomb Bomb” to talk directly to our clients. People buy PEOPLE and they want YOU. Instead of doing a long, complicated email, just pop open a video window and speak to your client directly. Here’s an example of one our videos where we describe how to get to our STUDIO

The videos also give our clients a sense of what to expect when they come in, as they are taken in our location. Your clients want to get a sense of who they are working with and what it’s like to BE there. Consider doing videos where you are walking through your setting so the client can get a better idea of your setting.
Don’t worry about looking PERFECT in these videos. Again, relatability WINS. So if you stumble over your words a bit, no worries, it shows you are human.
Speak at Events
With my more introverted personality, I find that I can more easily speak in front of large groups via Zoom. Heck I even RECORD myself first sometimes and just share the recording. But, If you feel comfortable enough to speak in front of a live audience, keep an eye out for speaking engagements in your area. Speaking at events will help you build rapport with your audience and give you the opportunity to network afterward too. Just be sure that you have a professional headshot and branded photos to send with your bio and that your website is looking good before you start sending traffic there.
