How to prepare for your Personal Branding Photography Headshot session

Personal branding photography is “all the rage” right now in our virtual world. Your clients are looking for YOU and they are looking for you ONLINE. Creating several images that show you, your personality, and often in a window-lit office setting, are going to have an impact and connect with your prospective clients.
Think about how you are going to use your personal branding images
If you are considering personal branding photography, then you are likely starting to get serious about your marketing. So, you must consider what you will use these images for. Here are just a few areas where you may need personal branding images:
- Blogs: Create images that go with the “theme” of your blog. For example, you may have a blog entitled, “Confused about how to create a business plan for 2021”? The image that would go with this is one where you might look slightly confused.
- Website banner: A horizontal image with “negative space” on one side to allow for your logo, copy, and call to action.
- Email marketing campaign: Sending out monthly email blasts? You’ll be surprised when each month has a different image of you in it that goes with the focus of your message.
- Social media: Yes!! Ask for a CLOSE-up image so your prospects can see your face and FILL the frame! Swap out your social media profile image monthly to keep the interest
- Email signature: People buy PEOPLE and if you have never met your prospects and your FACE matters. Many of the prospects you email, have never met you. Your email signature is a way to connect on a more personal level.
Come up with a “blueprint” for your personal branding session by looking at sample images
Be sure to look at the photographer’s personal branding gallery and pick those you like, OR go to Pinterest or online and send them print screens of personal branding images you gravitate towards.
You and your photographer should be very clear on what you like ahead of time and what to strive for. The sample images can be printed and set out when you are doing the photo session to guide you through poses.
Decide what props to bring to your personal branding session

These personal branding sessions are perfect to share PERSONAL items that connect with your potential clients. Consider items such as:
- Personal Desk Photos: Framed pictures of you and your family
- Other Personal Desk Items: such as pencil holders, paperweights, plants.
- Marketing Brochures: Specific to YOUR company
- Books related to your business: If for example, you are a business coach, consider having books from other inspirational coaches you admire
- Reading glasses: A great prop because you can put them on your head, wear them or hold them.
Consider your TARGET AUDIENCE in your personal branding session
Most importantly, understanding WHO you are connecting with, who your “target audience” is, will dictate the types of images you want to capture and the message you are delivering. For example, If your clients are usually light-hearted, creative, carefree, and casual, your images need to include you laughing, NOT looking at the camera, off-center, horizontal, or leaning in.
