What to expect for your Personal Branding Photography Headshot session
Personal branding photography sessions are a bit different from your normal “headshot session”. They usually incorporate personal items/props, more horizontal “themed shots” with furnishings, and often you will not be looking AT the camera. Let’s break it down on what to expect when you walk in for YOUR personal branding session.
Expect to be asked to bring a few personal items to your personal branding photography session
If you are considering personal branding photography, you are likely to want to tell a story, create a feeling and show YOUR personality. So bringing a few of your personal items with you will help attract and connect with your potential client. And by the way, your potential clients are often “just like you” and will NOTICE the things you bring. Here are some things to consider bringing along:
- Jewelry you wear all the time: Notice how you always navigate to the same pair of earrings, necklace, or bracelets? Those are the jewelry items you want to wear. Longer necklaces can create a longer line in the body (very flattering) and bracelets can add a special touch when your hands are by your face.
- Glasses: If you wear glasses a lot for reading or when you are with clients, bring ’em! They show who you are and how you look, and they can also be used as a prop.
- Props that “make sense” for your business: Example: I’m a photographer, so it makes sense for me to be photographed with my camera. If you are a yoga teacher or into the health and fitness industry, bring a mat or items you use every day with clients. Laptops and phones are props that make sense for everyone!
- Desk Items: Our personal branding sessions always incorporate a few “desk shots”. Think of these shots as more or less, “work in progress” images. Notice what you have on YOUR desk. Is it a special pencil holder, plant, coffee mug, or gift item? These desk items will tell a story about YOU.
Your personal branding session may include images where you are not looking straight INTO the camera
If you view our personal branding gallery you will see several of our clients are not looking directly into the lens. Rather, they are looking out a window, laughing and looking to the side. Many of you who are doing these personal branding photography sessions value marketing, and so many of you have a pretty awesome website. These more casual, “looking away” images that show your personality, are perfect to connect with your potential clients.
Expect a few horizontal images that incorporate a scene and some furnishings
Many of us are working at home or in a window lit office. So our sessions will look and feel like a professional, light, bright office (without the clutter of a regular home office). We also include some beautiful furnishings that go with our light, bright and WARM style. These various furnishings will also give the impression that you sit DOWN with your clients for consults, and will give your body “something else to do” vs. just standing up.
