Gone are the days where you only promoted yourself in person. Networking is often done now ONLINE. That means your prospect’s first impression of you comes across in Zoom meetings and in that LinkedIn photo. Making that first impression image count, matters. The trend in Denver headshots is moving towards personal branding images. The difference? Personal branding images show personality, are much more engaging and less “stuffy” than the old school headshots.
Why personal branding vs. headshots?
1. “Personal” conveys personality
In a nutshell, your prospects will connect with you if they sense an engaging, approachable personality. Consider using images that show you looking away with a genuine laugh. People buy people and they want to SEE your face. So, crop IN tight, so when scrolling through several faces, YOURS is clearly seen. Crop in just above the collar bones.
2. You’ll feel way more comfortable taking personal branding images vs. headshots
I get nervous just thinking about sitting on a stool and looking at the camera. That camera seems to be looking into my soul and I have a lot of secrets I’d like to stay hidden. The camera appears much LESS noticeable when I’m NOT looking right into the lens. And with the help of a good photographer, it’s just way easier to be myself when I’m looking away. Some of our tricks as a headshot photographer is to have our clients look UP and laugh, look OUT the window or look across the street. Every now and then we’ll throw our clients off with something ridiculous to get a genuine laugh (we have a full arsenal of tricks, so get ready!).
3. Personal branding images can incorporate your surroundings
Working in coffee shop? Meeting clients there? We are too. If you want to share an engaging, warm environment (and create a similar feeling), explore being photographed IN your favorite coffee shop. Since our photo studio is on Mainstreet in downtown Littleton, we have SEVERAL coffee shops to choose from. Here is a sample of a personal branding “coffee shot” image our client (an author) put on her social media:
4. Personal branding can easily incorporate personalized PROPS
If you are a creative and use a set of tools to do your craft, show them in your images! Props could include a yoga mat, pencil holder, fresh flowers, journal, framed picture or laptop. Bring props that you use everyday when doing your work! Having the props in your branding images will give your audience a sense of you. And, often your prospects will PICK you because they use the SAME props. Like attracts like.
5. The applications for engaging personal branding images are endless!
Here are a few ways you can USE your new images virtually. These images WILL help you attract the right audience and get noticed. The image library we create will give you up to one YEAR’S worth of personal branding images to use in all these different ways:
