Wardrobe Tips – Women

Preparing for Your Photo Session Experience

We are excited for you to prepare for your photoshoots! Deciding what to wear in your photoshoot is important and these helpful tips will help to make your process easy and fun!

Keep in mind, we will be photographing you mostly from the waist up, but dress HEAD to TOE just in case we pull back (this means to be sure to wear a nice pair of shoes). Please come “photo ready” with your hair & makeup done. Please be sure to check your confirmation email to confirm how many outfit changes your package comes with.

This page mentions tips for several outfits, however not every package has multiple changes. For those of you with only one outfit, use the following tips to get your outfit just right!

What to wear on top:

  • Solid colors work best (avoid wearing patterns or an all-white top). Consider a color that brings out your skin/eye color.
  • V-neck/scoop neck, jewel toned, knit shirts are best with long sleeves (avoid showing arms as the eye will tend to go to your arms vs your face). If we do take off the jacket, a fitted v-neck knit shirt underneath will work best and may work alone.
  • Jackets that come IN at the waist are HIGHLY recommended as they will SLIM and tailor the body.  Make sure you can easily button the jacket.

What to wear on the bottom:

  • Solid colored jeans (casual look)/slacks (professional look). You only need one or two pairs!
  • Be mindful of your socks (solid & dark) and wear nice shoes. Only one pair of shoes is necessary. Please wear/bring wide heels only, no stilettos or sharp heels.

Accessorize

  • The easiest way to change up your look is to bring another jacket, a fun scarf or different jewelry.
  • Focus on a few key pieces, no need to bring your entire wardrobe. Remember, less is more!

If you are not sure what top works best, wear your favorite outfit and bring a few more & we will help you pick your top 4-5 outfits

Video Examples of What to Wear

Here are some videos we’ve created to help you select your clothing & have a successful experience! Make sure you dress according to the “message” you are trying to convey to your audience!

Consider a Jacket!

The right jacket can make all the difference! Be sure to bring at least one.

After 19 years photographing women, we’ve noted one common denominator…the perfect look includes a tailored jacket.  I know, I know – you are thinking “but I don’t usually wear a jacket OR I just want a casual look.”  You are still going to look slimmer and can stay casual looking with a jacket!  Why do we push jackets so much? 9 times out of 10, when we photograph women with a jacket and without, the pick the one with the jacket.

Colors of jackets that look GREAT with our backgrounds:

Charcoal gray, black, denim (jeans/navy jacket), jewel tones, green, WHITE and black!

Below are 3 examples of outfits that photograph well, are slimming & are a polished look.  Look for jackets that you can easily button and that come in at the waist.  You can make the look more casual if you wear a simple knit under the jacket (instead of a blouse).

In addition to a jacket, here are some other jacket alternatives:

We understand jackets aren’t for everyone but bring at least one anyway and you’ll see the difference. Other types of items that slim at the waist are v-neck fitted shirts or a wrap sweater/wrap dress. Long sleeved are best. Another GREAT options is a “panel dress” where there is a separate fabric coming into the waist:
